The Lost Villages and Rough Oceans

In the second book, Journey to the Grassland and Sea, there was a ghost girl named Neihanva, her village by the seaside was destroyed by large waves, centuries before Tenashar’s time. The area where the village stood became a forest, the ruins were deserted. Neihanva and her parents were buried in the mounds. At first Tenashar and his companions never trusted her, and later found out that she was a ghost. She led them further into the forest, and all of a sudden a large wave destroyed where they had camped in the forest. They were grateful to Neihanva. Yes the Orbs for years had been causing havoc but so had the tribes that had developed devices that were biological, to do the work for people thus these devices discharged chemical and other types of things that were wasteful. Tenashar and his companions had learned that all the villages and small cities along seashores had experienced large waves that swept inland. The Senetha and the other tribes didn’t want to control nature with devices because centuries ago they experienced the destruction to their crops and land from experimental devices that created ill effects to the land, the land gradually recovered. The Orbs came in those days but they weren’t as destructive compared to the Orbs that attacked in Tenashar’s time. So they learned that it wasn’t necessary to develop devices that controlled nature.

Two thousand years before the destruction of Neihanva’s village the ocean cities which once existed north and south along the shores of Honazal there were cities that were built on the ocean, some of these were artificial islands and structures that were anchored to the ocean floor. The other structures were part of underwater towns, villages, and cities. This is where aquaculture was developed to feed the people of the land. The people working there were fishermen, aquafarmers, engineers and marine biologists. The raised all types of marine animals, cultivated seaweed, microorganisms, and developed sea salt for food and medicine. Besides the work that was done there, people lived on the sea in well-organized communities, other than the sea structures, people lived on ships and submarines of all sizes, many of the ship resembled cities that sometimes sailed to all parts of the world to engage in trade. There were some sea structures that floated they weren’t anchored to the seabed but there was strong tether that kept these structures from floating away. Most of these structures had an organic look to them and were sometimes mistaken for sea creatures. Some of these sea buildings were small, others were huge, no matter what the size or shape, they were beautiful and artistically designed. There were structures that reached down into the seabed, people also lived under the seabed and within the sea. The material these structures were made of looked like opaque glass, which made them glisten in the sunsets. The bright colors of these structures would change during the day, at night they would glow. The inhabitants that lived along the shore would observe the ocean cities with pleasure. For almost three centuries these ocean cities were destroyed by the gradually increasing size of the waves and undersea quakes that killed thousands of people. People in Honazal and Sovazal hear voices and see large numbers of people walking on the surface of the ocean. Like Tenashar and his companions other people experienced having their lives saved by so-called ghosts. During Tenashar’s time the ocean cities no longer existed
I wrote the original draft of the story in the early 2000’s before the earthquakes, tsunamis and monsoons in Asia, the Indian Ocean, and Haiti. Of course I knew nothing about these unfortunate events in the future. When I wrote this part of the story about the ghost girl it wasn’t in reference to these incidences. I wanted to convey something particular to Tenashar’s world that the disasters from the ocean and land were the result of humanity trying to control nature without wisdom and understanding it. All of these disasters are particular to their world.

Many people around the world are debating about global warming, the effects on the environment, it’s said that some islands in the Pacific are sinking and some coastlines are disappearing.
