Inspirations for Imagination

When I look at any object I can see something there, an image of something that excites my imagination, for example a rock can suggest a strange kind of architecture in another world, or it can be a shoreline with sky cities. This how I developed the land of Sovazal, situated in the far North; I thought of vast shorelines with organic structures blending in with the environment; some of it partially covered in ice and others appearing almost tropical. I imagined vents of volcanic steam blending in with vast forests. I invented this place through the things I’ve seen. On the island of Hawaii there are the lava fields with twisted patterns and other forms that can suggest anything to the imagination. I remember the volcanic steam rising up and some of the bright lava that hadn’t cooled off. There are many pictures of shorelines, ones I’ve been to and the others I’ve imagined. There could be an object that is interesting, part of a ballpoint pen, the design of a car, parts of a motorcycle, ruins of a building or plant form that can suggest buildings and devices of another world. I sculpture these things in my thoughts and when I put them together they become something interesting. This creates stories to write about.

Imagination comes from observing the world, things of nature, manmade objects even the sunlight coming in from the window creates all kinds of fantastic patterns. The ocean swells, it’s colors during different time of the day inspires me to see buildings made of light that resembles colored crystals that light up at night with a sky crowded with stars. When Tenashar and his companions were in the city of Honazal they lived in a tower that resembled a mushroom. I imagined what it would be like to live in a mushroom, its fantastic interior to look out from this mushroom to see sunsets, sunrises, a whole city and the sea.

Imagination can take a person anywhere, I consider this a form of travel where anything is possible.
